Parent news

September 11th

I hope you and your families are well. Students have returned to school in a calm and purposeful manner. They have clearly been pleased to see each other and we are enjoying seeing them back in lessons.

I would like to thank you for your support in ensuring they are fully equipped with the correct uniform, equipment and face coverings. They have been incredibly supportive of the school in the way in which they have adapted to the new arrangements. We would appreciate it if you could keep checking their equipment and books to support them with the new timetable.

Year 11 Revision evening

6.30pm- 7.00pm Thursday 17th September. (Meeting opens from 6.15pm for log on)

We would like to provide as much support and guidance to Year 11 as possible. On Thursday of next week, we will be holding our first Year 11 revision information evening. The evening will focus on updating families and students about the English course and revision techniques for all subjects.

We will be trialling using zoom for this meeting.   You should receive a letter via School Comms with login information

Face coverings

Virtually all students are now using face coverings on corridors. If you feel your child cannot wear a face covering, as they have a medical exemption, please contact Mr Godwin at .

Students self -isolating

Thank you for following government guidelines and for self-isolating where your child has one of the main symptoms of Covid19. As with all schools nationally, we expected that we would have a small proportion of our children self-isolating and therefore, since we reopened, our staff have been sharing lessons on office 365 so that students are able to access these.

Advice on self-isolation:

Your child must self-isolate if they display any of the following symptoms.

These are:

Fever/high temperature

Persistent cough

Loss of taste or smell

Or if you have been contacted by track or trace or have been in close contact with a person who has a main symptom or who has tested positive.

They must then arrange for a test. Please keep us updated during this time.

We hope that none of our students test positive however we accept this may well happen. It is essential that you contact us if your child tests positive.

If a student in the school tests positive we will then work with the Local Authority and Public Health England. If the student who has tested positive has been in school, it is likely that we will be asked to send students who have been in contact with the positive child home to isolate. If this were to happen we would contact parents/carers to come and collect their child, we will of course allow students to stay in an isolated area in the school if you are unable to collect immediately.

If a student has a negative test, they can return when the symptoms are over and they feel well enough.

If the test is inconclusive they need to self-isolate for 10 days since the symptoms started.

Buses and taxis

Thank you to students who are remembering their face covering on the buses. We do expect students to wear face coverings in taxis. Please remind your son and daughter of this.

Cycle Safety

We are pleased to see our new bike shelters being used.  Please ensure your sons and daughters who cycle or come to school to wear a helmet, to ensure they are adequately protected.  Please follow this link for further information about cycle safety:

Change of contact details

To ensure we have the most up to date contact information and at least two emergency contacts for each student, can you please update our staff in reception if any contact details change.

Stranger Danger

Whilst we will focus on safety areas such as this in our tutor periods, can I please ask parents to support us in delivering the safety message on stranger danger. If students walk to school it is always good (wherever possible) to walk with friends.

Student questionnaire

We want to learn as much as we can about students experience of online learning and therefore Year 11 and 13 students will be asked to complete a questionnaire next week. The link to this will be shared with them via their office account.

I hope you have a lovely weekend. Please pass on my thanks to your son/daughter on the way in which they have worked with us this week.

Best wishes,

Mrs Rudge
