Attendance

 Attendance and Belonging

At Thomas Alleyne’s High School, we believe that every day in school matters. Regular attendance enables students to fully engage with their learning, build positive relationships, develop confidence, and take advantage of the wide range of opportunities available to them both inside and outside the classroom.

We know that students who attend school regularly are more likely to make strong academic progress, whilst also benefiting socially and emotionally through their participation in school life. Being present each day helps students feel a strong sense of belonging, develop resilience, and maintain positive friendships and routines.

Our approach to attendance is rooted in support, care and partnership. Attendance is a key whole-school priority, led by our Senior Leader for Attendance, Mrs Major and Attendance Officer, Miss Irving, who work closely with Heads of Year, Pupil Welfare Officers, form tutors and the wider pastoral team to promote a positive culture of attendance across the school.

Together, they work in partnership with students and families to understand and address any barriers to attendance, providing timely and personalised support where needed. This collaborative approach ensures that every student feels known, valued and supported, while maintaining high expectations and helping all students to fully benefit from their education and wider school experience.

Rather than focusing solely on attendance figures, we celebrate positive attendance habits and recognise improvement at every level. We believe that every step towards better attendance deserves recognition, and we are proud of the efforts made by students to improve their attendance and engagement with school.

Through high expectations, strong relationships and personalised support, we aim to ensure that every student benefits from the opportunities, experiences and sense of community that come from being present every day.
